Top tips for household chores

  1. Scheduling – have set days or times of the day to do certain chores where possible.

  2. Folding washing – when folding the washing, get a basket for each household member and fold directly from the line. This will save time later.

  3. Dishwasher – stack the dish washer as you go, even when you are cooking a meal. The kitchen will be easier to clean up at the end of the cook.

  4. Dusting – use a wet cloth to dust dust as this actually picks up the dust, as opposed to a feather duster that just moves the dust around.

  5. Get the kids involved – set an egg timer and make it fun. See how much they can tidy up in the playroom before the timer goes off. Set the timer appropriate to their age.

  6. Mail – open your mail directly above the recycling bin. That way the wastepaper is already put in the bin beneath you. One less thing to do later.

  7. Vacuum – find a regular vacuuming routine that suits your needs eg high traffic areas may need more vacuuming more often.

  8. School bags – get the kids to empty their school bags of their lunch boxes, schoolwork, notes and homework as soon as they get home. This will help everyone to manage the responsibility.
